Perry Smith
•Perry Smith was born in Huntington, Nevada
•Rough childhood, father was abusive
•Lived in an opharnage and a care taker tried to drown him
•Met Dick Hickcock in prison
•Former cell mate from prison turned them in to the cops
•admitted to cutting the throat of the father, Herbert Clutter, and to shooting both Herbert and Kenyon Clutter in the head with a shotgun
•Truman Capote extensively interviewed Smith and eventually befriended him
•Death:Hung April 14,1965
Richard Hickcock
Richard Hickcock was born in Kansas City, Kansas
•completed high school, had stable family
•1950 car accident left him with a dislocated jaw that disfigured his face and left him unemployed
•in jail met Smith another inmate, Floyd Wells, told them about the Herb Clutter family, who supposedly kept a large sum of money in a safe at their isolated house near •Holcomb, Kansas.
•Herb and Kenyon in the basement, Bonnie in her bedroom, and Nancy in her bedroom
•shot one at a time
•Death:Hung April 14,1965
